Concern Four County Challenge Walk
Concern, one of Ireland’s best loved charities, launches the first Four County Challenge Walk and you are invited.
The walk, which will take place on Saturday August 31st, showcases an off the beaten track region of Ireland. It starts in the Knockmealdown Mountains which straddle Waterford and Tipperary. It passes through Cork and finishes in the Galtee Mountains on the Limerick side at Kings Yard.
Walkers register at the end point of the walk in the Galtees. A bus then transfers them to the start point in the Knockmealdowns. The walk starts near the Vee at the beautiful corrie lake known as Baylough. The route meanders along the Avondhu Way taking in parts of Tipperary, Waterford and Cork.
Mountain track changes to quiet minor roads near Ballyporeen and from there the trail heads to the Galtees entering at Galtee Castle near Skeheenarinky. It hugs the Attycran River and finishes at the foot of Galtymore at Kings Yard. Once you cross the bridge you are in County Limerick. The total distance is 33km. There will be an option to finish near Ballyporeen also in which case the distance is 24km. As the terrain is on good quality track and minor roads it is possible to do it in a good pair of runners.
This walk is for everyone – from walkers of moderate fitness to mountain runners
