Death of Mick Keating, Lios Mhuire, Clogheen

The death occurred on Friday January 25th 2013, of Mick Keating, 5 lios Mhuire and late of Cooldevane Clogheen. He died in Bramleigh Lodge Nursing Home, Cahir, peacefully in his sleep.

Mick was due to celebrate his 90th birthday in April of this year. He always had a friendly and jovial word for all he encountered. A native of Gormanstown , in 1960 he moved his family to Clogheen and continued farming in Cooledevane. It was here he was introduced to greyhounds by his very good friend, the late Harry Condon. Mick excelled in his new passion and put Cooldevane, the name he used on all his greyhounds and still used by the family now, on the map with success after success both financially and in the breeding circuit.

When he wasn’t involved with his dogs and farming life other hobbies included card playing (he was an exceptional 45 player), bingo and GAA. Mick also had a great interest in politics, especially Fianna Fail, for whom he was President of the local Cumann. Fianna Fail members walked along side the hearse to the church at his funeral.

Mick is survived by his wife Betty, sons Eddie, Thomas, John, Michael and Larry, daughters Margaret, Breda Wall and Mary Brannigan, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Removal took place from his son, Larry’s home in Cooldevane to Clogheen Church on Saturday. On Sunday following requiem mass celebrated by family friend, Fr. Tom Sinnot, he was laid to rest in Duhill Cemetery.

Our deepest sympathies are offered to his wife of 62 years, Betty, and all his family. May his kind and gentle soul rest in peace.
