Clogheen Annual Homecoming Festival
The Clogheen Annual Homecoming Festival runs each year from the Wednesday prior to August 1st until the Monday after. Looking forward to seeing you there. You’ll find a list of the festivals, dates & times, including for this year, here.
The Festival
Each year on the August Bank Holiday weekend Clogheen Community Council holds a Homecoming Festival with events around the town. The festival is generally opened with a 45 Card Drive in St. Paul’s Community Hall on the Wednesday evening before the Bank Holiday weekend.
The weekend consists of a number of activities and competitions including Sheep Racing, Duck Derby, Wife Carrying Competition, Beat on the Street, Road Race, Draoicht na Faille Deirge, Treasure Hunt, Loop Walk, along with many others.
One of the highlights of the festival is the Gala day held in Fr. Sheehy GAA Park on the Sunday afternoon. Among the activities on offer here include a dog show, children’s races, over 40’s football tournament and the very much anticipated Tug of War competition. As you can see from the attached pictures, this competition has been run at the festival over the years. The pic on the right was taken in 1981.
Pubs around the town usually participate in the festivities by putting on entertainment on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend.
Will the sheep racing fall on a Saturday or Sunday do you know yet?
Many thanks
Gavin
Gavin,
they haven’t released the schedule for 2013 yet, but it’s usually on the Saturday evening.
