We recently received this letter from Theresa Tinggal.
I recently visited Tipperary as I had a DNA database match to a small village there. Unfortunately I have now come to a dead end and need your help. I was adopted in 1954 in Dublin but unfortunately owing to the nature of the adoption there is no paperwork whatsoever. I did not however find out until I was 48yrs old and now I am 61. I was recently on Adoption Stories for the full hour on TV3 and featured in an article in the Irish Independent (not online anymore but you can see portions of it and on YouTube).
I am appealing to anyone in Tipperary if they can help me and any information that you give me will be treated in confidence. Everyone has a right to know their identity and circumstances of their birth. I am not looking to make trouble with anyone and I fully understand how things were in the 50s…for myself I just need closure and would be so happy if someone could just give me an inkling. I know one or maybe both of my parents came from Tipperary and it must have been difficult in those days to have a baby out of wedlock. I was born 9th June 1954, collected at two days old from a Nurse Doody’s house in Collins Avenue and brought up in Rathfarnham Co. Dublin. If this rings a bell with you please email me in the strictest confidence Time is getting on for all of us but I would dearly love to meet with some of my biological family before it’s too late.
To My Birth Mother
I know it must have been difficult for you to have to hand over your baby…but what choices did you have in the 50s…..none. It must have been heartbreaking for you …. I know, as I have two children of my own … grown up now, and two beautiful little grand daughters. I can’t imagine the pain you may have felt to hand over your baby . I have been searching for you now for 13 years since I discovered I was adopted…. I just want to know what happened to you and that you went on to have a happy life …. I hope from the bottom of my heart that you did.
