Mount Anglesby – Glounliagh Walk – Walk 1
Thanks to Galty Vee Valley Tourism for the map and directions.
Starting in Clogheen, this walk takes 1.5 to 2 hours depending on how easily you can pass the views of the valley. It is a walk suitable for all the family.
Take the Lismore road out of Clogheen. You will pass over the River Duag, past Glenleigh House on your right hand side (now unmarked and the gardens are not available for public view anymore). Further on you will pass St. Theresa’s Hospital on your right hand side and the gateway to the former Clogheen Union Workhouse. The building across the road from the hospital is the old National School. Continue along to the south until you come to the first entrance to the forestry plantation on your right, 3/4 of a mile (1.2km) from the village. Alternatively, you can drive to the start of the forestry road and park there at the right hand side of the road (left hand side on your way from Lismore/Cappoquin).
1. Leaving the road, take the forstry entrance on your left (see picture – it is signposted for the Munster Way) and follow this road which partly circumvents a field.
