Mountain Lodge, Glengarra Woods
Most people are by now aware that the Mountain Lodge in Glengarra Woods has been closed as a Youth Hostel for some years now. Shortly after its closure, windows were broken and much of the roof lead was stolen by vandals. Consequently this beautiful, historic old building is now in a very poor state of repair.
Burncourt Community Council members as representatives of the wider area opened negotiations with An Óige to lease the building with the initial aim of saving the building from further decline. The aim was to house a restoration project in Burncourt Community Council and link with other interested groups. Mountain Lodge has been part of the heritage of the area for over 150 years and it would be dreadful to witness the disappearance of such a historic landmark from our communities.
A project of this nature requires the support of the wider community from Cahir to Mitchelstown as well as local communities in Ballyporeen, Ballylooby, Clogheen, Skeheenarinky and others.
With this in mind, Burncourt Community Council will hold a meeting on Thursday, July 3rd assembling at 7pm at Mountain Lodge to assess the situation and then on to Burncourt Community Hall for the meeting at 8.30pm.Obviously people are free to attend both venues or just come along to the meeting in the hall.
While aware that all communities have their own fundraising projects, it would be great if communities could unite on this task.
